Online Video Advertising: Banners May Not Work

12月 29, 2008 · Posted in Online Banner Advertising · 3 Comments

We spoke with Internet superstar Charlene Li of Forrester Research. She’s been thinking a lot about the model of advertising surrounding online video; she predicts it will take many forms. Charlene says that YouTube’s business model will inevitably become advertiser based, and she sees contests and sponsorships as a very promising area for the start-up. She thinks banner ads are not a particularly successful format for sites like YouTube, as people are watching videos, not the banners. She is keen on the success of the Diet Coke/Mentos viral video ad. That’s an example of adding short advertisement to the end of a clip, known as a post roll. See this video on Beet.TV: www.beet.tv

Google AdWords Help – Finding Your Own Google AdWords Ad. At JumpFly, we learned that many pay-per-click (PPC) advertisers regularly search for their own companys terms to check the position of their ad relative to their competitors. As a result, one of the most common questions we receive is from advertisers who cannot see their own ads when searching for themselves at Google. There are multiple possible reasons for this, but I reviewed the three most common causes below. 1) Are you using The Google AdPreview Tool? Have you looked for yourself over and over and noticed that your ad seems to be dropping, or even disappeared? Don’t worry – you are not alone, and you are not crazy. That is exactly what can happen at Google. When searching for yourself, you likely seldom or never click your own ad. Over time, this can cause a very low click-through-rate for your ads that appear for searches performed within your IP range. Google AdWords may then lower your ads position or even stop displaying your ad at the office or offices using this IP range. This will likely cause alarm and concern if not understood. This is partly why Google created the AdPreview tool. This is a powerful and valuable tool that enables Google AdWords advertisers to see what Google users are actually seeing, even in specific locations. It is great. Use it. 2) Check to see if you are reaching your maximum budget limit. Reaching your budget limit will result in Google displaying your ad intermittently

About Pay Per Click Advertising

About Pay Per Click Advertising

Website advertising is much simpler than running ads in a newspaper or on television, thanks to pay per click advertising.  Every website publisher needs to find ways to monetize his website.  After all, you’ve spent all that time putting your website together, so shouldn’t it be paying you back?  PPC advertising offers you a chance to earn money just by posting things on your website.  You don’t even need any sales people on your staff!  You will get paid every time a visitor to your website clicks on one of your PPC ads.

There are two basic ways pay per click ads pay you back, and there are a variety of website advertising companies that offer accounts based on either of these two PPC ad methods.  The most common type of account you’ll find is the bid-based PPC ad account.  Bid-based pay per click advertising allows advertisers to bid on how much they’re willing to pay for specific keywords.  The amount you get paid depends on how much the advertisers bid for those keywords.  The network you subscribe to matches PPC ads to your website, based on the keywords you use.

The other model for pay per click advertising is based on a flat rate.  As a publisher, you have a rate card that lists your cost per click in various areas of your website.  You can charge more for pages that get a lot of traffic and less for pages that don’t get as much traffic.

There are also two ways for PPC ads to actually appear on your website.  Depending on which network you become an affiliate of, you’ll choose between the standard pay per click ads and In Text website advertising. With both types of PPC ads, you get paid every time a visitor to your website clicks on one of your pay per click ads!  The standard PPC ad will appear as a banner across the top or a PPC ad on the side of your pages or alongside your content.

In Text website advertising doesn’t place actual PPC ads on your website.  Instead, the pay per click ads will appear as links within the text of your articles.  The links are double-underlined according to keyword, and small bubbles open when your website visitor brings her mouse over the link.  The bubbles give your visitor a little more information about the advertiser so he can decide if he wants to click on the link.

Infolinks is an In Text advertising network that offers a smarter contextual advertising model for publishers worldwide.  Infolinks utilizes cutting edge technology to maximize the amount of revenue your website brings in.
